A non-invasive method for diagnosing issues within your pet's internal organs.
Our veterinary team is dedicated to using innovative, safe methods that can support your pet’s health. We believe in using minimally invasive surgical procedures whenever possible, as these procedures are generally safer and provide better outcomes. Endoscopy allows us to perform important procedures on your pet, with less risk than traditional surgeries.
An endoscopy includes inserting a tube into your pet’s body to examine organs and tissues or perform minor surgery. With the help of a camera attachment, we can see inside your pet’s body to help with a diagnosis or perform surgeries. The endoscope is usually inserted through the mouth or rectum to see your pet’s gastrointestinal tract, including their stomach and colon. If you have questions about your pet’s upcoming procedure, please contact us at 902-865-6400.
External signs could be an indication of internal issues. If our team suspects issues with your pet’s esophagus, stomach, small intestine or colon, we might recommend an endoscopy. We can also recognize any abnormalities like toys, hairballs or sticks your pet might have swallowed, which can be removed. Any of the signs below could be an indication of your pet needing an endoscope, including:
Your pet might need short-acting anesthesia to ensure their safety. We cannot properly insert the endoscope if they are conscious, without causing them pain. To prepare your pet for an endoscope, it’s important to closely follow our pre-procedure instructions. Your pet should stop eating at least 12 hours before the procedure to ensure their stomach and colon are clear, so we can get the best image.
