Dr. Tyler Hughes-Veterinarian/Owner- Dr. Tyler grew up in Lantz, NS and always intended on becoming a small animal veterinarian. After obtaining a Bachelor of Science from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from the Atlantic Veterinary College, Tyler and Kristina packed up their dogs, cats and horse and headed west. After 1 year in Vancouver and 5 years in Edmonton practicing in large, progressive small animal clinics, Tyler is happy to be home and excited to bring his experience to Sackville Animal Hospital. Tyler loves all forms of small animal practice, but has special interests in dentistry and small animal medicine. Tyler and Kristina welcomed a two-legged member of their family in March 2017, named Amelia. The three currently live with their 3 dogs, 3 cats, 2 chickens, and horses. In Tyler’s free time he enjoys gardening and sports, specifically hockey and golf.
Dr. Kristina Hughes-Veterinarian/Owner-Dr. Kristina is originally from Moncton and has been practicing veterinary medicine since 2008, when she graduated from the Atlantic Veterinary College. Kristina worked in a mixed animal practice in PEI for 1 year prior to moving out west. It was in Alberta that Kristina was able to gain a large amount of surgical experience and expertise. Kristina has performed several advanced training courses on orthopedics, and has an avid interest in anything surgery related. Dr. Kristina also has training in abdominal ultrasonography, and is excited to expand her skills on endoscopic and laproscopic procedures. Kristina also enjoys other aspects of veterinary medicine, such as pain management, internal medicine, preventive healthcare, and has a special interest in being a partner in your pets' overall health. She is our resident Exotic Doctor. Despite moving out West for 6 years her dream was always to return home to the Maritimes so she could build life-long relationships with her clients and patients. She values your pets just like she values her own, and puts a high priority on everyone having a good experience at the vet!
Animal Health Technologists
Allie Rafuse- Veterinary Technician- Allie joined the team here at Sackville Animal Hospital in 2011 as a veterinary technician after graduating with honours from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College. She welcomed a daughter in July 2016. It was her love of animals and science that directed her towards being a veterinary technician and she looks forward to continuing to improve her knowledge and skills. She currently resides in Falmouth with her fiance, daughter and her two cats, and enjoys spending time with family and friends in her spare time.
Christina Gregory-Animal Health Technologist-Christina graduated from NSAC 1996 from the Animal Health Technologist program and joined the SAH family in 2006. Christina has a huge love for animals and knew from a young age that she was destined to work with them in some capacity. It has been rewarding over the years helping educate owners to give their animal companions the best that they can and be there for them through the happy and the difficult times of their lives. Christina has a special interest in exotics and she shares her home with many including snakes, tarantulas, ferrets, gerbils, leopard gecko and her dog Bailey and kitty Stan Lee. With the little spare time that’s left after taking care of her critters and working she loves to go shopping and expanding her garden.
Michelle Casey-Animal Health Technologist- Michelle joined our staff in 2003 after graduating from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College with a diploma in Veterinary Technology. Michelle was born and raised in Sackville and currently resides here with her husband Shawn and her children Rachel and Morgan as well as her 2 cats; Swiffer and Chase
Tammy Lawson - Registered Veterinary Technician - Tammy graduated from the Nova Scotia Agricultural College and became a Registered Veterinary Technologist in 1999. She started her career at a small animal practice in Winnipeg,MB. From there she went to Prince Edward Island and worked at the Atlantic Veterinary College as an Equine Ambulatory Technician for 5 years. After moving back home to Nova Scotia in 2005 and having her first child she joined the team at Sackville Animal Hospital in 2006. Tammy lives on a small hobby farm with her husband Trevor and their two children Isaac and Charlotte along with two horses: Ricki and Charlie, dog Jackson and cat Ceilidh. Being a mom with two active children takes up most of Tammy's time. She also enjoys cooking, gardening and spending time with family and friends boating in the summer.
Laura Hobbs - Assistant Manager- Laura is the assistant manager at Sackville Animal Hospital. Her love for animals blossomed as a small child, and she pursued her career in 2006 when she proudly graduated from Eastern College with her diploma in Veterinary Administrative Assistant. She briefly worked at the S.P.C.A before finding her place at the clinic she now calls home. Laura finds joy in greeting and educating clients, as well as assisting doctors, technicians and our other support staff. Laura resides in Sackville with her husband, two beautiful children and four fur children. She enjoys gardening, and is always crafting up a healthy delicious meal for her friends and family, while singing a catchy tune!
Melissa Milburn-Groomer- Melissa was born and raised in Sackville, NS and has been grooming pets since 2003. Melissa joined the Kibbles “N” Clips team in 2006 and has a lab cross named Maddie and an orange tabby cat named Tuck. Melissa is currently on maternity leave and has welcomed a baby girl into the world.
Sara Henderson- Groomer- Sara hails from Sackville, NB, but it was her love of horses that brought her to our area. She began working at Sackville Animal Hospital in 1995 to 1997, returning to Kibbles “N” Clips in 1999 as a pet groomer. Sara lives with her two cats; Whitney and Merlin.
